Mark of the Sylph

Mark of the Sylph - Rosalie Lario I read the first book in this series, Blood of the Demon, (review linked) but that was quite some time ago. So, I forgot most of what had happened. Luckily for me the book was written in a way that I wouldn't have had to read the first book to understand this world (although that never stopped me before... LOL). However, toward the end of the book, some of the things came back to me. Still, I would call this one a standalone, but you will probably want to go back to read that first book.

I did like both the main characters Maya and Taeg. However, a good portion of the book was dedicated to both Maya and Taeg wanting to get together and yet pushing each other away. I know that a lot of people like this kind of tension, but after a bit... for me, it got old. Even after saying that, I have to admit that there needed to be quite a bit of that or I wouldn't have bought her trusting him at all. It's a hard balance to create. I also thought that she trusted him too early in the game. Even so, in the end her trust didn't feel false. I know, I do sound a bit conflicted with this book but that's not always a bad thing. :) It kept my curiosity going.

In the end I give this book 3 stars. I find myself really liking the world here and I really liked the characters including the secondary characters. I'm guessing all the brothers will get a book and I'll happily read them all. I recommend this series to PNR fans.
